A Promise of Warmth
The crisp morning air held the sweet scent of renewal. Sarah, bundled in a light jacket, pushed open the creaky gate to her grandmother’s garden.
Winter’s grip had loosened, and the earth was a canvas of vibrant life. Delicate crocuses, like scattered jewels, poked through the damp soil. Pansies, in a riot of purple, yellow, and white, stretched their faces towards the weak spring sun.
Sarah knelt, tracing the velvety petals of a pansy. A single tear rolled down her cheek, a bittersweet mix of grief and hope.
Grandma wouldn’t see this year’s blooms, but Sarah knew these resilient flowers, blooming faithfully each spring, were a promise whispered on the breeze – a promise of warmth, growth, and new beginnings.
Henrietta we saw this amazing Spring.

Pingback: A Spring Goodbye – Sweeterthannothing
What a great story!
Here’s what I knocked up:
Snow dripped from the evergreen trees as the great thaw finally happened, spring was here at least and in the first warm breeze of the season, a scent of hope was in the air, blowing away the grief of the mourners.
Burials couldn’t take place over winter when the ground was too frozen to get a shovel in, which sadly left spring the season of new life also the season of goodbyes.
But by the time the sun had come out, family and friends had their time to learn to smile again and the final farewells of spring were the most joyous of all.
A very good story
